If a student is having academic / behavioral difficulties and the teacher has exhausted all his/her resources a child study is initiated to help meet the needs of the student. A child study is the collection of data on a student. The data that is collected can include, but not limited to, review of the student folder, informal assessments in reading and math, observations by person other than teacher, teacher observations and any other information that will add insight to the student’s concerns. After the information is collected, a child study team comes together to share the information on the child. The child study team includes as many of the following as possible, parents, classroom teacher, administration, guidance, AC Coordinator, ESE Coordinator. At the child study meeting an intervention plan is developed to best meet the needs of the student. Six to eight weeks later a follow up meeting is scheduled to discuss progress and any needs for revision.
The Student Support tutoring program is designed to assist students who need reinforcement of math, reading, and language concepts. The goal of this program is to help all students achieve success in their own classes. This program will use a variety of resources to help each child reach their learning potential. The tutoring groups are low in size with 2 to 4 students, therefore providing more personal attention. Students involved in this program will be pulled-out from their regular classroom for their tutoring session in the Student Support Room. Scheduled sessions will be determined after discussion with the child’s parents and teacher. Sessions are approximately 45 minutes in length, with a minimum of two sessions and a maximum of five sessions per week. The cost per session is $15 and will be billed to your CCA account. Sessions are filled based on need and availability.
The Learning Enrichment Lab uses a program called Essential Learning Systems (ELS). ELS capitalizes on the brain’s ability to develop more fluid pathways for automatic recognition, retention, recall, comprehension and application of information...pathways that are frequently underdeveloped in students. This program focuses on the very core of learning problems - faulty sensory processing. The approach focuses on mastery, positive reinforcement and motivation, resulting in significant gains in grade-level equivalencies, test scores, self-esteem and overall performances. The ELS educational approach experiences significant success because of its systematic instruction and universal design of learning. Learning takes place through a variety of modes. Learners may receive information through any of the senses, but learning is most effective when it occurs in multiple senses. This type of learner is called a multi-sensory learner. ELS is a multi-sensory learning system because it combines CD quality speech recordings with graphics and texts to provide a stimulating, full spectrum learning environment. Furthermore, ELS has been carefully crafted so that educators can tailor these forms of sensory input. This tailoring enables teachers to individualize each student’s learning environment. An evaluation will be given to interested students to determine if ELS is an appropriate program to meet their needs. The evaluation fee is $125 and will be billed to your CCA account. This fee includes two comprehensive tests and an evaluation review with parents, classroom teacher and the Exceptional Student Education Coordinator. If this program is appropriate to meet the needs of the student, then the parent, the classroom teacher, ESE Coordinator and LE Lab Instructor will work together to determine scheduling. Elementary student sessions are approximately 45 minutes in length, four times per week. Middle and High School sessions are 70 minutes in length, three times per week. All groups are kept to a low student to teacher ratio. The cost of this program is $395 per month for a minimum of 10 months and will be billed to your CCA account. Sessions are filled based on need and availability.
This classroom is designed to meet the individual needs of students with varying exceptionalities such as Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, and other physical and mental disabilities who are best served by a 3:1 ratio. An Individual Student Support Plan is written to address the unique needs of each student. The classroom uses a picture communication system combined with sign language for the students that are nonverbal. The curriculum is specialized for each student and their needs. As well as academics, teachers focus on implementing a curriculum that will enhance students’ ability to communicate, socialize, function independently, and introduce prevocational skills. Students can be mainstreamed into the regular classroom for a portion of their day when the CCA staff along with parents believes this would enhance the student’s learning. The students in the VE classroom are working towards a special education diploma. The cost of this program is $15,000 a year.
