Basketball Practice and Game Schedule (subject to change) CCA Lady Eagle Basketball- Establishing a Tradition of Excellence for God’s Glory!
The Lady Eagles basketball program will begin its fourth varsity season with its
first practices on Monday, October 27th.
Mark Butler, CCA Athletic Director, will once again direct the overall girls’ basketball program which will include Varsity, Junior Varsity, Middle School and 6th Grade teams.
Coach Butler is beginning his 20th year coaching basketball and was recognized as the
2004 National Coach of the Year by the National Christian School Athletic Association. Furthermore, he was most recently honored as the
2006 Sun-Sentinel Coach of the Year. The girls’ program is on the rise and the Lord is blessing the efforts of the players who have worked diligently in the off season. This year’s theme is
“God does not grade on a curve; give your best at all times.” Joining the Lady Eagle staff for the 08-09 season to help continue building the program are
Debbie Hornsby, Sean Dougherty, Sean Fryer, Mark Kriesel and
Ronnie Lakatos.
Coach Hornsby, Varsity Assistant Coach, returns to provide stability to the program and has been most beneficial to helping our players develop in the off season.
Coach Sean Dougherty comes over from the boys side and will provide some great insight into the teaching of the game.
Coach Sean Fryer will be assisting
Coach Dougherty on the Junior Varsity team and will add practical knowledge as he relates well to the team.
Coach Mark Kreisel, our Middle School Head Coach will provide experience and knowledge to the team.
Coach Ronnie Lakatos, 6th Grade Head Coach, also returns to help the girls’ basketball program become successful and provides some excellent knowledge of the fundamentals of the game.
The Eagles are coming off their best season to date with 16 wins and finishing the season strong. The team really bonded together in Christ and was a tremendous example to the other girls in the basketball camps over the summer. The girls have worked hard during the off season, attending summer leagues and going to team camp at the University of Miami. The Calvary Christian Academy Girls Basketball team also traveled to Kentucky to participate in a one of the top national girls basketball camps in America.
Coach Mark Butler and
Debbie Hornsby took the girls which included:
Kodie Brown, Teagan Quinnell, Meagan Kriesel, Amie Shantz, Monica Quijano, Kylie Hornsby, Kristina Florio, Deborah Gordon and Caroline Pauls. This was a great opportunity for our girls to learn and participate at the very highest level of basketball in the country and they did an outstanding job!
Deborah Gordon, incoming sophomore to CCA, participated in a National High School Girls Basketball Camp which included over 300 of the best players in the nation.
Deborah was selected as one of the top 60 players and won first place in the free throw shooting competition.
The future looks bright for Lady Eagles basketball at CCA! Once again
the team will play in the American Airlines Arena, home of the World Champion Miami Heat, on Saturday, November 22nd at 2:00 pm and then will stay to watch the
Miami Heat play against the
Indiana Pacers at 7:00 pm.
The Lady Eagles have won in their two previous appearances at the American Airlines Arena and are looking to add to that streak. Go to

One of the key components of this year's program will be a focus on outreach into the community and the discipleship of the athletes to find and follow God’s will for their lives. Players will take part in community outreach efforts as they seek to balance their ministry both on and off the court as we seek to make
“Every Athlete A Disciple.” The Lord has brought together some tremendous coaches and players and I know it will be a successful season as we

All athletes should complete the medical and release forms and submit them to the CCA athletic office prior to starting to practice on October 27th. No one will be allowed to play unless these forms are completed. Go to FORMS

There will be a
