“God gave them knowledge and skill in all literature and wisdom.”—Daniel 1:17
The Language Arts Department exists to instill in our students a love of reading, writing, thinking, and speaking using a variety of literary genres and integrating Christian principles through the lens of a Biblical worldview. As a result of their learning, students will be able to apply many strategies to comprehend, interpret, evaluate, and appreciate texts and read a wide range of print and non-print texts to build understanding of texts, of themselves, and of many cultures; to acquire new information; to respond to the needs of society and the workplace; and for personal fulfillment. Students will keep considering how to adjust their use of spoken, written, and visual language to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences for different purposes. Students will also consider how to develop a better understanding of self and others as relationships, life circumstances and personal responsibilities are linked to Christian values, morals, and purpose.
Annually, our secondary English Language Arts department participates in the ACSI Creative Writing Contest with students routinely demonstrating award-winning talent, specifically in the areas of short story and rhymed poems.
Additionally, our juniors and seniors consistently achieve high College Board Advanced Placement (AP) scores in both AP Language and Composition in eleventh grade and AP Literature and Composition in twelfth grade.
