CCA Student Wins First Place at HOSA Regional Competition

Calvary Christian Academy 10th grade student, Samantha Rodriguez, is pursuing her passions for science and biology and her hard work is paying off!

Last weekend, Samantha earned First Place for her knowledge of Human Growth and Development at the HOSA (Health Occupational Students of America) Regional Competition, which will qualify her to compete with other top students at the Florida HOSA State Competition in April. “I enjoy HOSA because I get to interact and socialize with friends and other students who also have interests in medical or scientific fields . . . the best part for me, though, is learning more about God's amazing creation,” shared Samantha.

Samantha sees her passion for science and biology as an opportunity to serve others. “[God] has revealed to me that I have a passion for helping others in His name,” said Samantha. She plans to attend college and hopes to join a missional organization, such as Food for the Hungry or Compassion International, where she can help medicate and provide vaccines and other essential medical supplies to people in developing countries.

She attributes some of her inspiration to Calvary Christian Academy Biology Teacher, Mrs. Chada. “She was my teacher for Biology Honors, freshman year,” said Samantha, “and it was in her class, [through] her teaching, that God opened my heart to the passion He has given me for biology.”

The CCA community is very proud of you, Samantha!
