Calvary Athletics is proud to announce Coach Jorge Miranda's return to the Eagles Baseball Program to serve as assistant coach under Alan Kunkel. Miranda coached with Kunkel in the program’s first state championship season in 2016. He then spent a two year stint at Chaminade Madonna building a solid program in that time. In addition to coaching baseball for the Eagles, he will also be assisting in the Health and Fitness Center in the first semester to build relationships with the student body as a whole.
“I look forward to returning to CCA,” said Miranda. “We can use the platform God has given us through Calvary Baseball to spread the love of Jesus to our players, the greater baseball community, and beyond.”
Jorge played division 1 baseball at Texas State. Upon graduation, the Puerto Rican native began his coaching career. He currently serves as a teacher in the Broward County School District. He and his wife, Cheza, attend Calvary Chapel and have three children, Jean(23), Jorge (17), and Sofia (10).
When asked about what Miranda’s return means to the program, Head Coach Alan Kunkel said:
Our goal in the Calvary baseball program is to build a program set on the pillar of passionately pursuing Jesus Christ and using the game as a platform to share His story. That requires diving deeply into who Jesus is and pursuing excellence in the opportunities that God has placed before us. That begins with a coaching staff that models excellence, and deeply pursues a relationship with Christ. Having Jorge Miranda back is exciting. He loves Jesus and understands the Calvary culture. He is a very knowledgeable coach that will help pour into our culture of excellence and accountability. We want our young men to leave our program having a relationship with and a life built on the rock of Jesus Christ. We believe that mission will prepare our kids to be great husbands, fathers, and leaders in a broken world. Jorge Miranda coming back is a big piece to that mission. He will pour into and mentor our young men for the sake of the Gospel.
Keith Huisman, Calvary’s Athletics Director, said, “At CCA, we are always looking for high quality coaches who love Jesus. Coach Miranda is the perfect fit for the program. Proverbs 27:17 speaks of iron sharpening iron. Jorge Miranda will bring that to the rest of the coaching staff and our players will reap the rewards.”
