Reading can sound like a laborious, academic task for some students, especially over the summer when school is not on the forefront of their minds. But this doesn’t have to be the case!
Whether we realize it or not, words are all around us, and we’re constantly interacting with them. Summer reading can involve so much more than remaining focused on a chapter book for hours.
Calvary Christian Academy’s Lower School Summer Reading Challenge was designed to help parents and students realize that keeping the mind engaged during the summer months can take many different, fun forms while also preventing the summer slide — “the loss of academic skills that occurs when school is not in session and which is attributed largely to the lack of reading” (Scholastic, 2019).
Summer reading can involve so much more than remaining focused on a chapter book for hours.
