ORIGINAL MESSAGE: Calvary Christian Academy seeks to make disciples of students, training them to glorify God spiritually, academically, and socially. Competitive athletics is one of the most effective discipleship tools we have at our disposal by which to teach, train, and mold young people. In this unique season, we believe it is imperative to provide any family with the safest and highest quality athletic opportunity possible. We are here to support and bolster the authority God has given you as the parent of your child(ren). We recognize that each family is unique, and the decision to participate in any way, shape, or form should be yours and yours alone. There will be absolutely no pressure from CCA staff for or against athletic participation.

CCA Athletics serves a unique role; it unifies our community as we watch our student-athletes compete, and it requires a community effort because there are several factors at play when it comes to offering interscholastic athletic competition:

  • Committed Athletes
  • Supportive Families
  • School administrative support
  • Transportation options
  • Contest officials
  • Opponents
  • Facilities

Based on these variables, we have made the following decisions regarding fall sports.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS

High school will begin preparing for competition in the least restrictive environment possible while honoring local authorities and guidelines. Decisions regarding the lessening of protocols will be on an incremental (weekly to bi-monthly) basis. Additionally, the status of contests will be decided two to three weeks in advance.

MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS

Middle school athletics will begin on or after Monday, August 31. We are continuing talks with our middle school opponents. So long as social distancing policies permit, we will engage in an intense intramural competition (i.e. 8v8 tackle football) with contest officials. If opposing schools are willing to compete, we will pursue that course of action.

ELEMENTARY INTRAMURAL SPORTS

Elementary intramural activities are canceled for the first quarter. This will allow us the opportunity to maximize space and resources.

SAFETY GUIDELINES AND REQUIREMENTS TO PLAY

  • ATHLETE CLEARANCE
Prior to entry on campus, all potential participants must be cleared. CCA has rolled out a new clearance process at CCAEagles.org/Clearance. Included in this requirement is an FHSAA Pre-Participation Physical Evaluation. Due to COVID-19, all physicals must be dated by the physician after May 1, 2020. Any questions regarding athletic clearance should be directed to:

    Mr. Drew Anderson
    DrewA@CCAEagles.org
    954-621-7343

  • FACILITY CARE
All athletic facilities have been treated with an antiviral/microbial agent. Shared equipment will be cleaned daily, and hand sanitizer will be available at all facilities.

  • PROTOCOLS
Current Threat Level: Severe | SIGNIFICANT | Moderate | Low | None

    • Temperature screening immediately prior to activity
    • COVID-19 interview weekly regarding the recent history and activities
    • All athletes required to wear face coverings at all times
    • 6 feet of social distancing required at all times
    • No person-to-person physical contact
    • Athletes must bring their own hydration and food items
    • CCA transportation to and from sporting activities suspended

  • ATHLETIC TRAINERS AND SPORTS INJURY
Stephan Bronson and Ally Stafford are integral to these services. Because minimizing physical contact with athletes is imperative, the following policies regarding our sports medicine staff and treatment will be effective immediately:

    • Acute injuries will be addressed as normal
    • All movement of injured athletes will occur by cart
    • Athletes requiring ongoing limb and joint stabilization will be required to purchase a brace they can equip themselves
    • All coaches and athletes will comply with their directives immediately

PARENT CONSIDERATIONS

Prior to your child beginning participation, parents should consider the following scenarios and discuss their decisions with their child(ren).
  • Student Drivers and Student Riders
The athletic staff does not supervise students as they enter and exit the facility in their vehicles and will not regulate ride-sharing. Please discuss your comfort level with your child providing a ride or riding in the car of another student, as students would be in a vehicle where social distancing cannot be maintained.

  • Facial Covering Requirements
Broward County currently requires that facial coverings be worn at all times, including exercise. Students are expected to cover their nose and mouth at all times except for purposes related to eating and hydration. Selecting a mask or face covering during exercise should take into consideration the ability of the wearer to maximize air exchange.

HIGH SCHOOL SPORT SPECIFIC STATUSES

Each sport has a unique combination of variables. Individual decisions must be made for each activity. Below is the current status of high school fall sports. Next to each sport name is the TeamReach code to join their group chat. TeamReach is our athletic department’s means of communication. Please download the TeamReach app (click here to download onto an Apple device; click here to download onto a Google device) and enter the correct team code into the dialog box. Please communicate with your coach and you will receive nothing but support. When you feel the time is right, notify them and they will begin working your child into team activities. In this season, COMMUNICATION will be paramount. Please maintain open lines of communication with the coaching staff and we will do our best to accomodate.
