Fine/Performing Arts

  • AP Art History

    Students apply a biblical worldview to the examination of major forms of artistic expression from the ancient world to the present. Students learn to view and analyze works of art within their historical context & to articulate what they see or experience
  • AP Studio Art 2D Design

    Students pursue an art/design career study in a master/apprentice relationship. A professional application of students' talents and gifts is emphasized as students create a specialized portfolio for submission to the College Board for their AP exam.
  • AP Studio Art 3D Design

    Students investigate 3D mediums & forms as they choose their own creative approach & method of successfully employing the art elements and design principles to both functional and non-functional 3D works of art. Submission to College Board for AP exam.
  • AP Studio Art Drawing

    Students pursue an art/design career study in a master/apprentice relationship.A professional application of students' talents and gifts is emphasized as students create a specialized portfolio for submission to the College Board for their AP exam.
  • Art I- Drawing

    This course is a foundational drawing class, basis of the visual thinking equired for all art processes. It stresses the art elements and design principles and teaches techniques designed to help the students develop their drawing and observation skills.
  • Art I- Painting

    This course builds on the student's drawing and observational skills developed in Art I - Drawing, while expanding their realm of experience with different painting mediums. A variety of techniques and styles will be introduced.
  • Art II

    Students will explore two & three-dimensional art forms,such as, sculpture,figure drawing, printmaking, and will gain a deeper understanding of design concepts,principles and techniques,while expanding their realm of experience with a variety of mediums
  • Art III Honors

    A variety of art/design projects will be worked,critiqued & polished for portfolio.Students will explore various movements in Art History such as Impressionism,Bauhaus,Cubism.They will then emulate the various styles and techniques of the schools of art.
  • Art IV Honors

    Students continue to research and explore specific artists/movements. They then incorporate specific stylistic elements into their own original works of art, including 2D and 3D fine art, as well as industrial design projects.
  • Band I

    This course promotes the enjoyment and appreciation of music through performance of high-quality, intermediate-level wind and percussion literature. Students in this class need to obtain an instrument from an outside source.
  • Band II

    This course is designed for students who demonstrate proficiency in woodwind, brass and/or percussion techniques, music literacy, critical listening/aural skills,& ensemble performance skills, and promotes greater engagement with and appreciation for music.
  • Band III Honors

    This course is designed for wind and percussion students with extensive experience in solo performance and larger performing ensembles,promotes significant depth of engagement and lifelong appreciation of music through performance and other experiences.
  • Band IV Honors

    This course is designed for wind and percussion students with extensive experience in solo performance and larger performing ensembles,promotes significant depth of engagement and lifelong appreciation of music through performance and other experiences.
  • Ceramics I

    Introducing basic hand modeling techniques in clay, students will experience the different stages of clay, recognizing the clay properties and limitations.Students will have the opportunity to build various functional and non-functional pieces of pottery.
  • Ceramics II

    Students further explore the possibilities & limitations of working with clay.The emphasis is on more sculptural, non-functional or functional pieces, showing investigation of various design ideas and surface treatment.Employment of pples of art & design.
  • Ceramics III

    This course builds on the hand-building techniques learned in previous courses. Students continue to develop skills in modeling and surface decorations, while developing a deeper understanding of design concepts related to the creation of ceramic forms.
  • Ceramics IV Honors

    This course is for the advanced ceramic student who has shown skill and mastery of the various techniques learned in previous ceramics classes. Students are introduced to the potters wheel and may also work with more sculptural forms at a larger scale.
  • Ceramics V Honors

    Students will continue to work with sculptural forms,both hand-built & on the potter's wheel.They will develop & build a cohesive body of work reflecting careful study of a particular style, technique, or message.Written research paper & addtl studio time

  • Chorus I

    Students perform music of all styles and periods, keeping in mind the developing voice and stressing the essentials of the choral art. Concert and festival participation is required.

    This course enables students to develop intermediate-level individual and ensemble skills in choral performance through preparation of varied high school literature.

  • Digital Video Production I

    Students learn how to make short video projects using cameras and iMacs. Specific skills include scriptwriting, operating a camera, and video editing.
  • Fashion Design

    This course is an intro to the fundamentals of fashion design,pattern making and sewing.In this course the student will design a simple garment and create a pattern by draping on a dress form. Students will also sew their designs and showcase them during the CCA art show.
  • Film I

    Students explore the fundamental concepts,terminology,techniques,& applications of digital imaging to create original work.These concepts include writing,cinematography,production management,& editing.The instructional focus will be on making short films.
  • Film II

    Students explore and develop concepts, terminology, techniques, and applications to design, create, edit, and present original video projects. The instructional focus will be on the completion of their own short film.
  • Film III Honors

    Students explore advanced topics through project-based work, becoming more self-directed in their acquisition and use of concepts, terminology,techniques, and applications to design,create, edit and present original video projects and their own short film
  • Film Theory & Criticism

    Students gather together to analyze and discuss works that have majorly influenced American and international cinema. The course encourages students to be key participants in it to restore the arts in the hope of staying accountable to our Creator.
  • Film/Video Endorsement-A Honors

    This program is tailored for those disciples of Christ who have a strong desire to use the moving image as a form of expression and communication.This class allows students to gain knowledge and experience in the areas of pre and post-production.

  • Fundamentals of Music Theory

    In this course, High School students will learn how to read, write, analyze, and sight read/sing music in preparation for AP Music Theory. They will also work on their aural skills with intervals, scales, and chords. Music theory is a class designed for the beginning musician to more thoroughly understand the components of music and music composition. This class will enable the student to successfully complete basic understanding of music theory. It is preferred that students can already read music and have been a member of one of our music ensembles before taking this course, but it is not required.

    Students with little or no experience develop basic guitar skills and knowledge,including simple and full-strum chords,bass lines and lead sheets,barre and power chords,foundational music literacy and theory,major scales,and simple finger-picking patterns

    This course designs characters and objects by using different tools; traditional drawing and painting, modeling clay and storyboards, plus computer-generated images and holographic images using a Hololens.

    Students will learn the video production basics to creating news/informational media content. Students will gain the skills to write scripts, capture interviews and b-roll, edit segments with titles, music, animation and narration and develop program material including informational media content.
  • Music Endorsement-D Honors

    This track is for the advanced music student who desires a deeper understanding & appreciation of the music art: its history, structure,& function in society.Performance,audition,evaluation,& service opportunities,both formal and informal, are expected.
  • Theater Appreciation

    This course is designed for the student who is interested in taking a basic Theatre 101 class to complete a Fine Arts requirement for graduation or to try something new as an elective. It's designed to cover a variety of "quick snippets" of all genres of Theatre including but not limited to Basic Stage Direction, Improv, Stage Make-up, Props, Costuming, Light/sound Design, Set design, Dramatic Literature, Theatre History, and various playwrights and techniques.

    This class exposes students to a wide range of theatre training and techniques,and a  variety of theatre genres and styles.This will help them refine their approach to theatre to prepare them for professional work or post-secondary education in the Arts.

    This class provides the visual arts student,who is seeking to continue studies beyond the high school experience,more exposure to various content areas in the art field as well as the opportunity to develop personal study and a comprehensive portfolio.

    This course enables students to develop fundamental skills in the production of various mass media including yearbook.Students develop skills in various types and purposes of mass media,and learn how it impacts ethics,philosophy,history,culture & politics

    This course enables students to refine fundamental skills in the production of various mass media including yearbook.Students use state-of-the-art equipment & professional software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator to produce a publication.

    This course enables students to refine fundamental skills in the production of various mass media including yearbook.Students use state-of-the-art equipment & professional software such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop & Illustrator to produce a publication.
