Language Arts

  • AP English Literature & Composition

    This course features a wide variety of readings in poetry, plays, and fiction with the objective of deliberately reading to understand the complexity and richness of meaning in a work, enabling the student to arrive at a superior response and analysis.
  • AP Language & Composition

    This AP course introduces students to the intricacies of language in reading and writing. Reading from a variety of fiction and non-fiction selections, students will decipher stylistic features and connect meaning to the overall analysis of the selections
  • AP Seminar

    This course aims to equip students with the power to analyze and evaluate information with accuracy and precision in order to craft and communicate evidence-based arguments, exploring complexities of academic and real-world topics and issues.
  • English for Spkrs of Other Languages

    This course is designed for non-native speakers of English. Students will develop speaking and listening skills, vocabulary, background knowledge, reading strategies and writing skills.
  • English I

    This course introduces distinguished classical authors and themes. Literacy strategies and vocabulary are integrated into class activities as students read a variety of literature and texts.
  • English I Honors

    This course incorporates a holistic,integrated approach by utilizing other academic disciplines & focusing on analytic & evaluative thinking skills.Assessments and assignments have additional required writing focusing more on content,organization,& style.

    This course introduces medieval to contemporary literature from short story,drama,& novel selections.Students delve into the lives & hearts of characters,exploring the process & purpose of the stories while retrospectively responding to issues in society.

    This course introduces students to the basics of speech communications by developing fundamental skills in formal and informal oral communication. Students participate in a variety of speech activities that help them develop self-confidence and poise.
  • Standardized Test Prep Class

    This class is designed to prepare students for the SAT. This course will teach students the format of the test and provide both strategies and practice for questions on critical reading, grammar, usage, & writing,as well as pre-algebra,algebra,& geometry.
