7 Ways to Celebrate “Fall” in Florida

Add some fall fun to your list of to-do's—we've got a few activities for you and the family!

We may not see a drastic change in the weather here in Florida, but fall is still a great season to celebrate with your family. When we do get a glorious week or two of 80 degrees and below, be prepared with these fun activities you can do with your kids!

Take a nature walk.
Florida may not sport lovely autumn leaves, but there is still a lot of beauty to appreciate! Take a stroll in your local park or at the beach and collect some of God’s creations like flowers, rocks, and shells in a brown paper bag. Then talk about each thing and share facts about them with your child. A couple great parks in the greater Fort Lauderdale area are Fern Forest Nature Center, Markham Park, and Tree Tops Park. And if your kids would rather splash around, C.B. Smith Park and Quiet Waters Park are great options.
Bake together.
One of my favorite things about this season is all of the festive food! Make some yummy pumpkin or apple muffins and let your little ones help measure, stir batter, and pour. Check out some of these recipes.
Make a fall centerpiece.
With the hustle and bustle of prepping for your feast, it can be difficult to find ways to include the kids. This fall centerpiece uses branches and paper leaves set in a beautiful vase. Super easy, cheap, and something your kiddos will be excited to contribute!
Visit a festival or go for a hayride.
Broward County’s Parks and Recreation is hosting a few festivals and activities throughout the holiday season. Camelot Days Medieval Festival and Holiday Fantasy of Lights are two that will be going on this month. You can reserve your own private hayride and s’mores party for family and friends at a couple local parks through the Family Hayride & Campfire Series on weekends.
Make fall leaves.
Painted coffee make great fall leaves! All you need are coffee filters, markers or watercolor paint, and scissors. You can fashion a wreath, frame them, or string your leaves from the ceiling.
Read some Fall books together.
Some good ones are Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert, Apples by Jacqueline Farmer, Leaf Jumpers by Carole Gerber, A Friend for All Seasons, by Julia Hubery, and Apple Farmer Annie by Monica Wellington.
Go Strawberry Picking at Bedner’s Farm.
Strawberry season opens this month at Bedner’s Farm in Boynton Beach. Along with fun activities for the kids, you can pick up some fresh, sustainably grown fruits and vegetables for dinner!

Make the most of your time together this fall by finding things to do outside the house with your family. Little ones grow up so fast. These are the kind of memories they’ll cherish forever!
