5 Steps to Take When Applying to a Private School

By: Charlene Montesarchio and Angie St. Pierre
Applying to a new school can be intimidating, especially if it’s the first time you’re going through an entire admissions process. To set your mind at ease and help you navigate this unfamiliar territory, here are some tips that will make for a smoother process!

  1. PRAY!

Pray for God’s will when it comes to the school your child will attend and that He will reveal the steps you are to take. Trust Him in the process because sometimes our will and God’s will don’t line up perfectly, but He already has the perfect plan for your child!

“'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the Lord, 'plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.'” –Jeremiah 29:11

  2. REVIEW THE SCHOOL’S WEBSITE THOROUGHLY

Review the school’s mission statement, standards for admission, tuition schedule, and accepted scholarships on their website to ensure the school is a good fit for your family before you apply! This can help you save time and energy throughout the admissions process and equip you with good questions to ask administrators when you visit the campus.

  3. SCHEDULE A CAMPUS VISIT

You should always take this step before applying! Some schools, like Calvary Christian Academy’s Fort Lauderdale Campus, offer tours and Open Houses during the school day so you can get a feel for a day in the life. If touring in-person is not an option, see if the school offers a virtual tour on their website.

  4. APPLY EARLY

If you are applying for your child to attend a private school, applying early is especially important. Most private schools, like CCA, open applications almost a year prior to the start of the following school year.

  5. GATHER ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

After an initial application is submitted, there are typically additional items that are required as part of the admissions process. Have standard items ready such as birth certificate, report cards, test scores, etc, and then when additional items are requested, retrieve and submit them quickly. This helps to expedite the process.

May the Lord guide you as you walk through one of the most important decisions you will make for your child(ren). If Calvary Christian Academy’s Fort Lauderdale Campus is where God is leading you to apply, sign up for a tour today by completing an inquiry form at CCAEagles.org/Inquiry
