What Makes Christian Education Distinct
Private, public, charter—there are a many education options available to families. Discover what sets Christian education apart.
The new year of school brings so much excitement and anticipation; not only for our students and parents, but for our teachers and administrators as well. A new school year also ushers in a new discipleship theme at CCA. This theme provides students, teachers, and staff a common goal for spiritual growth. This year, our focus will be on the word DISTINCT. Our students will learn what it means to be set apart for God; to be recognizably different, clearly separate, and out of the ordinary. The verse we will focus on is Romans 12:2, which says, “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."
The Christian educator teaches not merely to inform the mind, but to renew the mind, giving students a higher perspective on life.
In discussing the distinct role of Christian education, longtime professor and pastor Howard Hendricks noted, “Secular education seeks to make more successful and intelligent people. The Christian educator aspires to nothing less than the transformation of a believer into the image of Christ.” He explains that secular and Christian educators have different postures toward the world. One helps a person fit into the world system; the other helps lift a person above the world. The Christian educator teaches not merely to inform the mind, but to renew the mind, giving students a higher perspective on life.

Providing a foundation in math, science, phonics, foreign language, and the arts is very important to our teachers. But even more important is the building of character in our students; teaching them about the things that matter most and the things that last. Our teachers don’t just want to teach, they want to transform lives just as theirs have been transformed, by a God who wants a personal relationship with us.
Christian Education is distinct. You might choose CCA because you want your child to have a recognizably different experience than the educational norm. You might choose CCA because, along with providing engaging and excellent academic and social experiences, we are called to the mission of transforming lives for Jesus Christ. This, we believe, is the highest calling we can have. And we believe our students’ lives WILL be transformed as we co-labor with a community of Christian families who are dedicated to the same mission as we are.
