25 Prayers for 25 Years | Day 17 | Praying for Revival in Our Community

By: Jason Mathew
In today’s devotional, CCA Fort Lauderdale parent and Head of Hospitality at Calvary Chapel Parkland, Jason Matthew, continues our 25 Prayers for 25 Years series by reminding us to pray for revival across our community.

Scripture:

“Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?”

–Psalm 85:6

Reflection:

One of my favorite stories I heard recently was about a revival that occurred in the late 1800s.

Five college students visited London one Sunday after hearing that revival had broken out at the Metropolitan Tabernacle. They arrived early and were met by a kind gentleman who offered to give them a tour. At one point he asked them if they would like to see the furnace room in the basement.

It was a hot day in July and the students were not interested, but not wanting to appear rude, they consented. Their guide quietly opened the door and there in the basement of the Metropolitan Tabernacle were several hundred people fervently praying for the service that was about to begin.

It was then that their guide introduced himself. He was none other than Charles Spurgeon himself, one of the most influential preachers of the 19th century. He wanted those college students to understand that prayer was the power source and reason for the revival.

My prayer is that our CCA community would become that furnace room. I pray that our school would be a place where we see teachers, administrators, students and parents who know and understand the power of their prayers and would pray fervently like David did for revival.

Prayer:

Our precious heavenly Father,

We come to You with hungry hearts.
In the middle of our lessons, deadlines, and routines — we need You.
More than grades, more than activities, more than success, we need Your presence. We confess, Lord, that we’ve become casual with what you call holy.
We’ve sung songs without full surrender.
We’ve prayed prayers that have lacked passion.

Forgive us. Revive this school.
Fill our classrooms with students who know their calling and purpose.
Let this campus be more than a place we pass through, but make it holy ground. Raise up students who are bold in prayer,
teachers who are fierce in faith,
leaders who walk in humility and fire.

Stir within us a passion to press in for more of your Glory.
Make us a community that hungers for revival.
Let Your Spirit fall — not for a moment, but for a movement. And may it begin in us.
Do it again Lord. In Jesus’ mighty name,
Amen.
