Eagles Battle Against Somerset Academy in Preseason Match

The Lady Eagles Varsity Soccer Team took the field against Somerset Academy in a preseason game on a windy night at the Calvary Stadium Turf. In the first half the wind was at our backs and supported us to keep the ball in the attacking half. We had our chances, but unfortunately we were unable to capitalize. At half time the score was 0-0.

At half time we spoke about how our defending was very strong, but we needed to improve our ability to keep possession so we can score the goals. The rate in which we controlled the ball technically and supported one another tactically needed to be quicker. Through passes were also needed to help us get into the attacking third. This will give us the space and time we need to create chances to shoot in the attacking third.

When the second half started it was clear it was going to be an uphill battle as the wind was pushing the ball towards our goal mouth. About 15 minutes into the second half a free kick was given outside of our 18 yard box and the kick taker was able to find the right trajectory to send it into the top corner just grazing our goalkeepers fingers. We were down 0-1. The rest of the second half became difficult for us as we were playing with one substitute and energy started getting low. We were caught out of position twice and the opposition were able to score two more goals.

The game ended 0-3, but the feeling after the game was positive. It was our first competitive outing as a team, and it was good to get it out of the way. We know what we need to work on at practice today to be ready for our next game Monday vs Archbishop McCarthy at 6:00pm.
