The Eagles lost a heartbreaker last night to American Heritage Plantation, ending their season earlier than expected, but with full hearts and a winning record of 9 wins, 6 losses. Our seniors this year have led us so well, and our underclassmen have worked so hard. We are full of joy because of the time we've had with those seniors, and we're so excited for the future of Calvary Lacrosse in the hands of those coming after them.
The Eagles won their final game of the regular season Friday night at home 8-5 behind a hat trick from Freshman Blayze Rodriguez. Senior Eric Stephenson was once again on fire at the face off X, winning 11 of 17 for 64.7%.
On a personal note from Coach Bond, this was the last game I will have the honor of coaching this very special Senior Class on Calvary Field, as we now head into the playoffs. To Eric Stephenson, Noah Horne, Christian Cimino, Matt Barnes, Killian Sullivan, Nick Bates, Monty Flanigan, Grey Croake, Derek Krueger, Ernesto Ispir, Jackson Malouf and John Merrill: Coach Fuchs and I love you guys. We are SO PROUD of the men you are becoming. Thank you for your commitment to this family over all these years. You are leaving a legacy of love, hard work and integrity that we promise to pass along to our underclassmen. We praise God every day for you guys, and we can't wait to hear about all the things He will do in you and through you for your joy and His glory in the coming years!
The defense registered their first "donut" (zero goals against) of the season in front of a flawless performance by Freshman Goalie Tyler Martinez. Playing most of the shut-out were Freshmen Marley Flanigan and Christian Davis, along with Sophomores Kevin Colindres and Caleb Barnes. Sophomore Justice Croake scored one of the longest goals in program history by hitting the empty net from nearly 30 yards away.
The boys take on Palm Beach Central tonight at Calvary Field at 7:00pm
The Eagles overcame major struggles early to beat friends and rivals Cardinal Gibbons last night, 10-5.
The defense, without senior captain Nick Bates, had to dig deep in front of freshman goalie Tyler Martinez who made 68.8% of his saves, holding Gibbons to just 4 goals in the first half, and only 1 in the second half.
The offense started slow, scoring only 2 goals in the first half. But they were ignited in the second half and scored 7 straight goals after Gibbons' only second half goal. Senior captain Noah Horne registered 2 assists, while senior Killian Sullivan, senior Eric Stephenson (61% face off), sophomore Tyler Asbate and freshman Blayze Rodriguez all scored 2 goals each.
The boys are back in action at home this Thursday against Stoneman Douglas at 5:00pm for senior night. Come out and support your seniors!
Scoring twelve goals in the first twelve minutes of the game, Calvary Boys Lacrosse dispatched district rival North Broward Prep in short order last night, taking another step in the right direction as they prepare for this Friday night's big showdown with Pine Crest.
Freshman goalie Tyler Martinez recorded an 80% save percentage, letting in only one goal as the game ended with a win 16-1. Senior Noah Horne set up the offense with two goals and three assists, while scoring for the Eagles came from all over the field, including goals from senior Derek Krueger, senior Jackson Malouf, freshman Carter Combs, and senior Ernesto Ispir, in addition to three separate hat tricks from Tyler Asbate, Blayze Rodriguez and Killian Sullivan.
We're asking everyone to come out this Friday night at 7:00pm on Calvary Field to support the team as they face off against Pine Crest - biggest game of the year so far. See you out there - go Eagles!!
Calvary Boys Lacrosse pulled out a solid win last night against Archbishop McCarthy, 13-7. The underclassmen took center stage, starting in nearly every position on the field, and controlling the game from start to finish. The defense, anchored again by freshman goalie Tyler Martinez, found their rhythm and held McCarthy to seven, while freshman Carter Combs and the offense consistently found the net.
No rest for the weary as we're up against district opponent North Broward Prep tonight on Calvary Field at 7:00pm.
After a difficult start to the season, the Calvary Boys' lacrosse team awakened to their phenomenal potential and defeated one of the best teams in the state over the last several years, Heritage Plantation, 7-4.
The game was a defensive slugfest with a lot of mistakes made by both offenses. We were up 1-0 at the end of the first quarter. Then we were down 3-2 at half time. Heritage came out after the half and put a quick one in to make it 4-2 with a lot of time left on the clock.
And then it happened.
Calvary was struggling to clear the ball out of our defensive end of the field when junior attackman Jake Tralongo streaked across the half line and caught an impossible pass from senior captain Nick Bates one handed and fully extended in the air between two Heritage players. He landed and darted between the two opponents only to find himself with three more white jerseys breathing down his neck. Sidestepping, juking and spinning, he made his way down the sideline, absorbing check after check. Finally clear, he safely moved the ball to senior captain Noah Horne and took up his normal position behind the goal while Horne carried the ball towards him. As they got closer together, they realized they had a two-on-one on the right side behind. Horne drew the defender and Tralongo bolted backdoor towards the goal. Horne fired the ball to Tralongo who caught it and immediately got smashed by another sliding defender. He spun as he fell to the ground, but amazingly, he still had the ball in his stick. From his knees, he ripped a shot to the lower corner just as another defender hit him, but it was too late. Goal, Calvary. The bench erupted. The team had awakened.
The 4th quarter started with us down 4-3 but it didn’t matter. The defense completely shut out Heritage in the 4th quarter while the offense hit their stride with four straight goals, one each by senior Killian Sullivan, sophomore Tyler Asbate, senior Noah Horne and freshman Blayze Rodriguez.
Game over, Calvary wins 7-4.
The boys have a busy week coming up with two early games against Archbishop McCarthy on Monday, district opponent North Broward Prep on Tuesday, and then a showdown with Pine Crest on Friday night at 7pm on Calvary Field. We would LOVE to see the school out there Friday cheering us on!
The Boys Lacrosse team lost a sudden victory overtime game last night against a gritty Boca High School team. Noah Horne and Tyler Asbate each added two goals, and Jake Tralongo added two assists. The Eagles defense was outstanding behind senior captain Nick Bates, who took on Boca's best player and kept him quiet for most of the game. Once again, freshman goalie Tyler Martinez stood on his head, making eight spectacular saves.
The boys are back in action this Friday in their first district matchup of the season at American Heritage Plantation.
Over Spring Break, the Calvary Men's Lacrosse team traveled to Miami to take on an undefeated Belen Jesuit team. While there were flashes of greatness from the offense and especially the defense, the team ultimately fell by a score of 11-6.
The Eagles will be looking for redemption this week against Boca High School tomorrow night on Calvary Field, and then on Friday in their first district game of the season at American Heritage Plantation.
